Oh, as for heroes I play, I'd say my main at the moment is Rhasta, waiting for Rooftrellen to get ported over.

I also play a decent Windrunner, Enchantress, Puck and CM

I don't see the big issue with using Board 8 to make the bracket. Send invites to 10 or so of the Stats Topic veterans to some private Board. They are ineligible for a prize entry and threaten a usermap axe if they leak any info before the bracket goes public. Have them officially register as consultants with a $0 pay or something to make them official employees.

The worst part about this contest is that there was a lot of room for improvement even in just bracket placement. Move Squall out of that division, give X and the lower NNers some debateable matches. Give us Mario/Cloud and Samus/Snake. BAM, classic contest.

Well, Castlevania/Halo wasn't a close match, per se, but it was an unexpected result (not the same thing as an unexpected percentage. If we want to go that route, Series Contest can beat that, too). Neither was MM/MK, but it had other sorts of implications involved. Rivalry Rumble had virtually nothing exciting about the vast majority of its matches, unless "Whoa this was even less close than we had anticipated!" counts as quality or exciting.

But I'll concede and even give you Frog/GLaDOS along with those others. You can even have X/Zero vs. Sub-Zero/Scorpion! However, there was very little debate about most of these matches, pre-or-mid-contest. Very little excitement. Not much of anything. We weren't even getting excited about the matches while they were happening. The vote totals sucking worse than anything ever has also detracts from the quality of the contest.

But if we want to include a highly debated match as a quality match, then we can include Phoenix/Gordon.

The main problem with the Rivalry Rumble is that we had 63 matches worth of suck as opposed to 31 for the Villains and Series. At least those bad contests had the decency to be over quickly.

Wouldn't the Rivalry Rumble be the same length as villains? Due to the round 1 matches being half-days?

Edit: Wait, ignore what I just said

Aside from Squall's division, they actually look pretty good to me. Everything else I could at least consider being accurate. (aside from Lloyd/Kratos). Adjusting Mario or the Trainers makes the numbers look worse to me.

So, for the most "official" stats, I vote simply adjusting Cloud/Sephiroth vs. Squall/Seifer and leaving everything else alone. At least everyone can agree on that. Moving Mario up 1-2% or something just because we are positive of Link/Mario SFF, though....I just don't think it's significant enough to really warrant doing an adjustment.

Sonic and Mega Man should probably be brought up somehow, given how badly they were roflstomped. No idea how that would be accomplished though.

Also, I can't express how happy I am with how high X/Zero ended up despite being fed to Mario (and subsequently to Link). They're probably a top 5 team in the bracket in proper stats. I'd have taken them over the Snakes now that we saw how crappy Cloud looked.

for x-stats, why not just assume Mario/Pokemon SFF and Cloud/Seph = Trainers? Put Mario halfway between his raw value and adjusted based on Cloud/Seph/Trainers and assume Link/Mario SFF = Mario/Pokemon SFF. i don't see the need to think of it in any finer detail than that.

Or we just don't worry about it since the stats for this contest are worse than useless.

Just get rid of Link.

Mario and Cloud are debatable enough now that the winner of a Link-less bracket isn't certain at all. Could be any of Snake, Cloud, Mario or Samus.

Now is the perfect time for a standard 1v1 (maybe with 12 hour round 1) to settle the questions we've had since the 4-way trainwreck started.

Trainers have gained 150 votes in a half an hour and likely won't slow down anytime soon. Cloud should win SNV but at this pace he might be dealing with a 800-1000 vote deficit.

From: janembaman | #128tbqh as a FFVII fan I feel kinda betrayed
FFVII fans want a remake for years, they even made a tech demo to "tease" FFVII fans to make it even more annoying
There is just no reason whatsoever to not remake FFVII
All the previous FF games were remaked (or at least ported with improvments) and yet they don't want to do the same with FFVII
It's been 5 years with no remakes (Final Fantasy Advance VI) with the exception of FFIV that was remaked twice recently

I don't feel betrayed by Pokemon as the series continue to be good and they keep releasing new games that are usually good
The only times I feel "betrayed" is when they announce a new game and then it's something stupid like PokePark 2 or that recently announced crossover game

lol

I'd feel betrayed if my series released progressively worse rehashes every 2 years to try to appeal to my OCD tendancies to "catch them all". At least FF7 has the dignity to release original sequels/prequels (even if some of them suck lol Dirge of Cerberus)

Well, yes, but with most brackets it's just "we could swap this easy match with this difficult match" and make the decent bracket better.

This bracket it's like... necessary.

Sometimes its hard to put a good bracket together, because setting up one good match could ruin 2 or 3 potentially good matches. This time we had some pretty clear examples on matches that were made through sheer stupidity.

I'm pretty sure from the day the bracket was released we were calling for Sonic and Crono to be better utilized, Squall and Snake to not be fed to Cloud yet again, Mega Man not be fed to Link yet again, X not be fed to Mario yet again.

Man, Pokemon's impressed against Mario multiple times recently. Red/Blue's currently got ~45.91% on Mario/Bowser after embarrassing Luigi/Waluigi in a debated match with 77.96%, Charizard got 54.73% on Bowser and 46.41% on Mario, Missingno got 51.51% on Yoshi after nearly doubling Toad in the vote-ins despite Mudkip and Jigglypuff, and Pokemon beat Mario in our last Nintendo-poll...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3998

...I'd take Super Mario > Pokemon, but I'd still like to see how well Pokemon could do one-on-one against Super Mario. It's building a good resume for itself in such a match.

I'm surprised there will be, at most, 1 perfect for what has been a fairly predictable contest. At least 2 out of 4 perfects got today's wrong (GranzonEx, based on the guru bracket entered and Sentsuizan) and the other two have different winners tomorrow. Could even be no perfects depending on who the other two perfects chose today.

Some of those on 127 before today therefore may still be in with a shot of winning, it is known at least three have Link>Mario finals.

It wasn't that bad for predictability. People are only complaining because the battle bracket means that people are more likely to get on board an upset train mid contest because their bracket depends on it. If there was no battle bracket, noone would have been advocating Trainers > Samus, even after the Ryu match.

The standard trends are definitely against Red/Blue. The problem is they aren't currently following standard trends or Mario would have buried them after the first 5 minutes.

At the very least the SFF in the match will normalize the trends, but Mario still walks away with the night. I'm thinking he kills it over night and they stagnate for the rest of the match.

I wonder if some schools are out already? That would explain more diluted trends.

Schools won't start getting out until next week. The diluted trends are because of the ASV getting weaker over the past few years as the site continues to age older.

That and the increasing prevalence of mobile phones with internet capabilities means people can vote at school/work during the day.
